Donovan McGlory (b. 1980, Detroit, Michigan) is an abstract painter working in acrylic and oil on canvas, known for his large-scale, gestural compositions. A multidisciplinary artist, musician, and practicing psychologist, he is currently based in Wichita, Kansas.
Donovan studied music performance at Wichita State University and later earned a degree in School Psychology from the same institution. His current body of work centers on abstract landscapes that emerge from memory, using color and form to evoke emotional states.
Inspired by the rolling terrains and sunlit hills of southern Spain, the vibrant blooms of the Dutch countryside, and the vast landscapes of the Kansas Flint Hills, he creates imagined environments that explore themes of eccentricity, anxiety, isolation, optimism, and joy.
Donovan's practice is shaped by movement and the exploration of vivid color and form. He approaches each painting as an open-ended experience, an act of exploration untethered from outcome.
By grounding his work in perception and memory rather than direct reference, he invites viewers into spaces that are emotionally resonant, familiar, and yet otherworldly.
